Helen Butler is based in Belper, Derbyshire, and works as both a potter and a printmaker. Working with porcelain paper clay she makes herself, Helen loves the translucency that can be achieved with this material. Her influences are from nature and pattern. Helen presses seed-heads and other items into the clay to pick up the often very delicate details, which are then coloured using oxides and stains. She enjoys working directly onto the clay, working flat and then slab building to form the finished pieces that are functional and decorative.
