Born and bred in Derby, Nicki Dennett has spent much of her life in the Derbyshire landscape, walking in all seasons and filling sketchbooks as she goes. With a deep connection to nature, her inspiration is drawn from the changing seasons, the patterns and textures of the landscape, and the way light falls on different surfaces. Colour is also a prominent feature, with bold, bright hues that capture the energy and vitality of the natural world. Nicki's work can be process-led, experimenting with different methods of printmaking being key to her development as an artist. These methods are mixed up into multi-layered and multi-media-based one-off original prints, sometimes adding areas of hand stitching. Much of Nicki's recent work has more of a sea connection. This was created on a two-month residency at Artcore in Derby and inspired by the many years of holidaying at Cardigan Bay in Wales.
